Styling a Sweater: My Tips For You!

Sweater (comes in several colors!) /Faux Fur Vest (similar) / Utility Vest / Distressed Denim / Black Distressed Denim / Booties / Riding Boots (similar) / Choker

Usually during this time of year, I find myself in somewhat of a rut, wearing the same sweaters over and over. Maybe you feel the same way, so this post is to help you break out of your routine without breaking the bank. ALL of my pieces mentioned are super affordable, and versatile for your wardrobe. I hope you find this helpful, and inspires you to style your outfits in a new way. Be sure to let me know if you’d be interested in seeing fashion how-to type posts more often!

1. Layering with a Utility Vest

I never thought of adding a utility vest to my wardrobe until this past fall. After searching the internet for the best reviews, I purchased a great quality vest from Nordstrom. I’ve already found countless ways to wear it, but pairing it with this sweater may be my favorite yet. Adding a piece like this to your wardrobe is a total game changer. I love that it gives this outfit a more structured look, considering the sweater is a more slouchy, oversized fit. I’ll link my exact utility vest here.

2. Layering with a Fur Vest

A faux fur vest is such a fun way to dress up a sweater. I love that it gives an outfit more of a textured look. You could go with black, tan or white. A vest doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, I found mine on sale for less than $25! The combinations are endless with this piece, and it’s a great staple to add to your winter wardrobe.

3. Top Knot & Choker

I’ve officially hopped on the choker bandwagon! This exact one is from ILYMIX, and you can save 20% with my coupon code: ‘ashleyj20’ It’s the perfect way to dress up an outfit for an evening out.  I’ve always been a fan of the top knot, and it is such a fun way to style your hair. Black distressed skinnies are a perfect piece to add to this edgy look.

This past week, I’ve had the opportunity to step back from the craziness of life, and reflect on what really matters. It’s been so refreshing for me to remind myself of why I blog in the first place. I love blogging about fashion, but it comes along with negative pressure and unobtainable standards that not a lot of people seem to talk about. Social media for example, shows everyone’s expensive outfits and exciting events that they attend, but nobody sees the hurt, tears over goals that have gone unmet, or anxiety from trying to be like everyone else. This break has given me time to do some brainstorming, and I have a few things in the works. I hope that this can continue to be a place that you come to for inspiration, and to know how much you are loved!

Love Always,

Ashley J.

  1. I love this post Ashley!! I have been wanting a utility vest for a while now and you styled it perfectly! Also, thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. I can totally relate to the exact same pressures. It’s real! I often have to take a step back, bring my fears and pain to Jesus, and stop comparing myself and my blog to others!!! Thank you for being so awesome 🙂

I was kind of nervous getting back into blogging, and it’s amazing what God does when His goals line up with your own. I’ve definitely adjusted my blogging schedule so I can better manage my time. I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve been working on, and I’m going to shoot you an email soon! xoxo

Unobtainable is right! Insta is great but is also so annoying and frustrating. I love your blog and can’t wait to see what lies ahead for it!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Mary! Instagram can be a great tool to grow your community, but it’s so easy to fall into the cycle of the comparison game. It’s so exhausting and definitely takes the fun out of blogging! I appreciate you taking the time to read my post 🙂 xoxo

I love how you re-styled this sweater. I have so many clothes, but I tend to stick to the same pieces so I’m always trying to figure out new ways to wear things.
